Cashback apps and shopping portals
Small savings, real privacy trade-offs.
Cashback apps and browser extensions pay a percentage back on certain purchases. They can help a little, but they usually earn their money from your shopping data and from encouraging more shopping.
Before you sign up
- Read what data the app collects, and what it shares
- Be cautious with apps that ask to read your email or see your bank accounts
- Check the minimum payout and how you get paid
- Browser extensions can see a lot of what you do online
Use it well
- Only for purchases you'd make anyway
- Don't let a cashback offer change which product you buy
- Delete apps you don't use
