Employer benefits you might be missing
Your benefits booklet is worth an hour of your time.
Many workers use their health plan and retirement account, and never look at the rest of their benefits. Some are worth a lot.
Benefits to look for
- Retirement match: are you getting all of it?
- Flexible spending or health savings accounts
- Commuter and transit benefits (pre-tax)
- Employee assistance program (EAP): often free counseling, legal and financial consultations
- Tuition assistance or reimbursement
- Wellness reimbursements and gym discounts
- Employee discount programs
- Dependent care FSA
- Life and disability insurance
Where to find them
Your benefits portal, the benefits guide from open enrollment, or HR. Ask specifically about anything with "reimbursement" or "allowance" in the name; those often go unused.
General educational information. Terms change often; check with the provider. Nickel Perks isn't paid by any card company, retailer or program.
